Concept design for the commemorative coin 150 years Piet Mondriaan. Piet Mondrian was born 150 years ago and became the most famous Dutch painter of the 20th century. This coin depicts the most important elements of Mondrian's oeuvre.

The reverse of the coin depicts the interior of Piet Mondrian's Parisian studio. The obverse side shows a composition with King Willem-Alexander in front of one of Mondrian's most important works. The portrait is rendered in a free and dynamic way, in line with Piet's self-portraits from his final years in New York. The inscriptions on the coin are written in a modern font on crossed stripes that refer to the black lines in Mondrian's compositions.
