Coin 30 years Maastricht Treaty

Concept design for the commemorative coin 30 years Maastricht Treaty. In 1992, the EU Treaty establishing the European Union was signed in Maastricht. This coin represents the connection that European countries have forged since the signing of the Maastricht Treaty.

The coin's reverse side depicts the historic St. Servaas Bridge in Maastricht. The bridge is depicted with its ends connected in a closed circle, symbolizing the unification of peoples and cultures, one of the EU's core values. The bridge is depicted with twelve pillars representing the countries that form the foundation of the European Union and that signed the Maastricht Treaty. The country codes of the respective countries are indicated next to the pillars. The obverse side of the coin shows the portrait of Willem-Alexander. A circular series of 12 stars, the emblem of the European Union, is depicted around the portrait.
